Fleas, Ticks, Mites, Intestinal Parasites, and
Heartworm
Part of the natural health care process involves non-chemical, all natural products for parasite control. While it's true that sometimes the allopathic products can be necessary for puppies who still have immature immune systems, particularly when they're experiencing stress for any reason, adult Cavaliers, and other pets, generally don't need anything stronger than what the Good Lord provides - natural products combined with a healthy, highly functional immune system.
Starting with the inside - intestinal parasites and heartworm.

This article, written by a holistic vet, Dr. Martin Goldstein, recommends using no heartworm chemicals on your dogs and puppies, and having a heartworm test twice a year. Your vet will be happy to see you twice yearly since it will give him a chance to give your pet(s) a check-up of sorts. Most health problems tend to be minimal if caught early. The same is true for heartworm. If the unthinkable did happen and your dog picked up heartworm, it would be easy to eradicate them since they would have been caught early.
That doesn't mean you should leave your dogs and puppies completely unprotected. There are herbal remedies for internal parasites that also are useful for heartworm prevention. They help to prevent the parasite from latching on to healthy tissue, which allows the body to flush them out. Here are two good products:

These products are good for a number of parasites - roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm, whipworm, coccidia, giardia, etc. - not just heartworm.
I want to share that we have been breeding in Texas for ten years and have not had one single case of heartworm. It still could happen, so we try to stay on our toes, but not even the poisons the allopathic vets recommend are fool proof.
Speaking of poisons, why, pray tell, would anyone want to poison their beloved pets' bloodstream with monthly heartworm chemicals? Poison in the blood that flows through all the organ systems and virtually every cell in your dog's or puppy's body can have detrimental effects. Your pet is counting on you to take care of him, inside and out. Poisoning his blood is arguably not the best nor safest approach.
While we're speaking of heartworm, I want to address the carrier of this deadly parasite, the mosquito. Fortunately, products that are used for flea and tick repellent often repel mosquitoes, also. Here is a very good, all natural spray-on product that I highly recommend:
This great product also repels mites, so you may want to use a bit in your dog's/puppy's ears.
