Re:       We Have to Share This

This week the USDA unveiled the new revised food pyramid.
Fifteen years ago in 1992, the USDA unveiled the pyramid that
is hung on the walls of almost every school cafeteria in the United
States.  This Food Pyramid is heavy on grains and pastas and low
on proteins and vegetables.

"The pyramid was partially responsible for the obesity epidemic ...
because it aggressively pushed a low-fat and high-carbohydrate diet,"
said Dr. Arthur Agatston, creator of the popular South Beach Diet.

The USDA Food Pyramid, created in 1992, displays bread, cereal,
rice and pasta at the base, indicating that consumers should eat the
most from that group. Vegetables and fruits split the next, smaller
level of the pyramid, while dairy products and meat, fish, eggs and
poultry share the next tier. At the pyramid's tip are fats, oils and
sweets.

What we wanted to bring up today is what a high school educated
only farmer said.  He looked at the food pyramid that is recommended
for fattening cattle and other livestock compared with what the USDA
was recommending for humans.  Guess what?  They were the same.
This farmers comment in 1992 was, "Well, guess there are going to
be a lot of fat American's in the years to come.  If I fatten my steers
on these grains, then the USDA is recommending fattening the
American consumer.  The consumers better wake up".

To continue our thoughts---how many of us pet lovers have fat
pets today?  Do you think maybe this might be why?!  Maybe
you better thoroughly check what you are feeding your pet
based on convenience and not good nutrition.

Food for thought today so you are awake and among the
thinking people in this country.

Yours for excellent pet health,

The Team
